3rd Grade Week 1: Making Our Own Sketchbooks

Standard:  2.1 Explore ideas for art in a personal sketchbook.

1.5 Identify and describe elements of art in works of art, emphasizing line, color, shape/form, texture, space, and value.
We began with the Elements of Art in our Art History classes last term.  Thus, we played an activity to see how many students could name all of the Elements of Art.

We constructed sketchbooks out of drawing and tag papers.  I cut to size and hole punch prior to the classes.  Students could select the color of pipe cleaner used to hold the book together.  The idea with the pipe cleaner is so that we can add other papers in the future – watercolor and construction papers and also to allow us to take any out if needed.  At the end of the term, we will use paper fasteners to bind the books once complete.

Students wrote a table of content and drew on their covers their original designs.

Images to come.
